Learn how locomotives first came to Sri Lanka and transported tea and people all over the country at National Railway Museum in Colombo. It was built to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the railway service in Sri Lanka. Showcasing unparalleled feats of engineering, the museum exhibits engines, carriages, rail cars, trams, trolleys, carriages, and machinery. The former Colombo Terminus Station, opened in 1865, was closed in 1906 and replaced by Maradana Station due to a new railway plan in the Colombo area. The former Terminus Station is now home to the National Railway Museum. It currently houses two locomotives and several old carriages, and also provides information about the history of railways in the gallery hall.
