An unfinished memorial to Scottish soldiers and sailors who died in the Napoleonic Wars, on the summit of Calton Hill. Designed by Charles Robert Cockerell and William Henry Playfair as a replica of the Athenian Parthenon, work began in 1822 but the money ran out — the colonnade has stood incomplete ever since, nicknamed 'Edinburgh's Disgrace'. Today it is one of the city's favourite viewpoints, with a full panorama framed by the columns.

Highlights
