The pedestrian section, roughly 1.2 kilometres long, stretches from People's Square towards the Bund: neon signs of boutiques, historic department stores from the early 20th century, and a sightseeing 'train' for weary shoppers. The street has been trading since the 19th century, and in the evening the neon ignites and the crowds thin only late at night.
