Germany's oldest museum harbour for traditional working vessels, founded in 1977 along the Elbe waterfront at Oevelgönne in Hamburg. Moored along an open wooden pontoon are some twenty restored historic ships from 1880 to 1960, including steam tugboats, sailing barges, a lightship, and a vintage floating crane. Strolling the piers beside charming pilots' cottages and the sandy Elbe beach is free and accessible around the clock.
