Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

Monument4.6 · 49 2994.4 · 37 011≈ 1 h 8 minFree entry1.2 km from the center

Germany's central Holocaust memorial, dedicated in 2005 near the Brandenburg Gate. Architect Peter Eisenman designed an undulating 19,000-square-metre grid covered with 2,711 concrete slabs or stelae of varying heights. Walking deeper into the labyrinth of bare stone columns evokes a disorienting, somber sense of isolation. Below the field lies a free underground Information Centre documenting the personal stories of Holocaust victims.

Highlights

  • Grid of 2,711 concrete stelae by Peter Eisenman
  • Undulating stone maze creating solemn isolation
  • Underground Information Centre with personal archives
  • Free admission to both the memorial and exhibition
