Although you may never have heard his name before, the wooden dacha of Pavel Petrovich Bazhov, which he called home for almost three decades, is well worth a visit. Bazhov wrote some of Russia's most beloved folk tales in the early Soviet era, awakening a new appreciation of folklore among wary Soviet citizens. His most famous work, The Malachite Box, was written in this century-old dacha, and since his wife preserved all the rooms in perfect condition after his death, a visit to this place is like stepping back in time. Pavel Petrovich Bazhov is a famous Russian writer, born in the small Ural town of Sysert who moved to Yekaterinburg for study and work. He is best known for his collection of tales, The Malachite Box, based on Ural folklore.
