This 14th-century Bulgarian Orthodox church sits in an underpass near the Serdika metro station in central Sofia. Dedicated to Saint Petka, it takes its name from the medieval saddlers' guild that patronized it under Ottoman rule. The single-nave stone structure was partially sunken underground in accordance with Ottoman regulations. Inside, fragments of vivid frescoes survive, while local legends tie the site to national hero Vasil Levski.
