A green island about 2.5 kilometres long in the Danube between Buda and Pest — Budapest's main park. It holds shaded avenues, a Japanese garden with peacocks, the ruins of a 13th-century Dominican convent where Princess Margaret lived, and a musical fountain that plays in the evenings. Cars are almost entirely banned, and entry is free from the two bridges. The Palatinus baths charge separately, but the paths, gardens and fountain cost nothing.
