The Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden opened in 1959 and ranks among Asia's oldest zoos. Since its 2022 renovation it has housed around a thousand animals of some ninety species, with a botanical garden of century-old trees, ponds and shaded walks spread between the enclosures near Manila Bay. Children get a petting zoo and play areas.
