Dominating Place de la Madeleine in Paris's 8th arrondissement, this grand Neoclassical church was commissioned by Napoleon as a temple to the glory of the Grand Army before its consecration in 1842. Designed in the likeness of a Roman temple, the structure is encircled by 52 monumental Corinthian columns standing twenty meters high. Inside, three coffered domes, dramatic marble statues, and a celebrated Cavaillé-Coll organ await.
