Karlsplatz

4.1 · 28≈ 20 min

Karlsplatz and the medieval Karlstor (gate) form the western entrance to the Altstadt and the pedestrian shopping zone along Neuhauser Straße... Karlsplatz, also known as Stachus, is formed by the Karlstor arch with a semicircle of rondell buildings on both sides and serves as the entrance to Munich's largest pedestrian zone. The German saying "Da geht's ja zu wie am Stachus" spread beyond Munich throughout Bavaria as a way to describe a place where a lot is happening. Nowadays, there is still a lot going on at the Stachus, day and night: several S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and tram lines run through here, alongside thousands of cars, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians passing through every day.
