France's primary botanical garden, founded in 1626 by Louis XIII's physician as a royal medicinal herb garden and opened to the public in 1640. Spanning 28 hectares along the Seine's Left Bank, it holds thousands of plant species across landscaped rose beds, an alpine garden, and historic trees including a 1734 Lebanon cedar. The grounds also host grand 19th-century art deco greenhouses and the National Museum of Natural History.
