Jaipur is the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan, founded in 1727 as the center of the principality of Dhundhar. The old part of Jaipur came to be known as the Pink City thanks to the pink-colored stone used in its construction. The city is famous for its rectangular layout, which is atypical for India. In the center of Jaipur stands the luxurious City Palace, adorned with columns, with gardens and courtyards. Several museums are open in the palace, but much of it is still occupied by the royal residence.
