The Imperial War Museum's northern branch, opened in 2002 on the Trafford Wharf canal side in a building by Daniel Libeskind shaped like a globe shattered into fragments — an idea carried through the halls, where war is told through people's stories. A Harrier jet, a Soviet T-34 tank and a section of the Berlin Wall are on display, and every hour the walls and soundscape stage the 'Big Picture Show'. Admission is free.
