A somber historic site in central Hanoi, this museum preserves remains of the fortress-like prison built by French authorities in the late 19th century. Originally used to detain Vietnamese political dissidents, it later held American POWs during the Vietnam War, who ironically dubbed it the 'Hanoi Hilton'. Visitors can walk through grim solitary confinement cells, examine an authentic guillotine, and view moving personal artifacts.
