Helsinki's central library opened in December 2018 opposite the Finnish Parliament, designed by ALA Architects for the centenary of Finnish independence. The building curves like a ship: cafes and lounges below, workshops with 3D printers and sewing machines in the middle, and a book heaven under a wavy ceiling at the top, looking over Toolonlahti bay. Entry is free — it serves as the city's living room rather than a book warehouse.
