Considered the oldest shrine in Hanoi, Bach Ma Temple stands on Hàng Buồm Street in the vibrant Old Quarter. Legend tells that Emperor Lý Thái Tổ founded the sanctuary in 1010 to venerate a mythical White Horse that guided the construction of the Thăng Long Citadel's walls. As the guardian temple of the ancient capital's eastern gate, it impresses with intricate carved wooden colonnades, gilded shrines, and incense-scented courtyards.
