Ho Chi Minh's Stilt House is set within the gardens of Hanoi's Presidential Palace, where Vietnam's leader lived and worked from 1958 until his death in 1969. Refusing to occupy the opulent French colonial palace, he chose this modest wooden home modeled after the dwellings of northern hill tribes. Preserved just as he left it, the two-storey retreat features his simple study and bedroom beside a serene carp pond and fruit orchard.
