Stretching south from Gyeongbokgung Palace's main gate against a dramatic mountain backdrop, Gwanghwamun Square is the civic and historical heart of Seoul. The pedestrian plaza is dominated by two revered monuments: the grand golden statue of King Sejong the Great, inventor of Hangul, and the towering statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin flanked by dynamic water fountains. Beneath the plaza, an underground exhibition brings their legacies to life.
