The Monastery of the Holy Imperial Passion-Bearers at Ganina Yama was founded in 2000 in a birch forest near Yekaterinburg. It stands on the site of an abandoned iron mine where the bodies of Emperor Nicholas II and his family were secretly brought in July 1918. The serene wooden complex features seven log-built churches, each dedicated to a member of the royal family, surrounding the historic mine shaft and a memorial cross.
