Estufa Fria is a unique botanical haven nestled inside Eduardo VII Park in central Lisbon. Opened in the 1930s on the site of an abandoned basalt quarry, it is famous for its wooden slatted laths that create a naturally moderated microclimate without artificial heating. Shaded grottos, winding streams, and stone bridges weave through hundreds of species of ferns, camellias, azaleas, and exotic palms from around the globe.

Highlights

  • Cold greenhouse naturally sheltered by traditional wooden lath screens
  • Shaded basalt caves, ornamental cascades, and scenic stone footbridges
  • Extensive collection of tree ferns, azaleas, camellias, and succulents
