Standing on bustling pedestrian Rua de Santa Catarina, the 18th-century Chapel of Souls (Capela das Almas) is among Porto's most iconic architectural treasures. Its exterior walls are completely enveloped in nearly 16,000 blue-and-white glazed ceramic tiles (azulejos), installed in 1929 by artist Eduardo Leite. The vibrant ceramic panels portray key moments from the lives of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
