The island's main pier in Chalong Bay on Phuket's south coast: every morning longtail boats and speedboats depart from here for the Phi Phi, Coral and Racha islands. The pier is long and stands on stilts above the water; street food and cafés with views over yachts and boats line its start. The Big Buddha is visible on the hill above the bay, so the meeting point is easy to find, and a dawn walk on the pier is a small local fisherman's ritual.
