One of France's premier historic playhouses, continuously presenting drama for over two centuries on Lyon's Presqu'île peninsula. Set upon the grounds of a former fifteenth-century Celestine monastery, the current Italianate theatre was designed by Gaspard André and opened in 1877. The auditorium dazzles with sumptuous red velvet, gilded balconies on five tiers, and an opulent painted ceiling by Joanny Domer.
