Bari Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Sabinus and was rebuilt in Romanesque style between 1170 and 1178 after the Normans destroyed the town. The austere facade with a stone rose window and portal lions faces the lanes of the old town between the castle and the Basilica of San Nicola. The crypt beneath the altar holds the relics of Saint Sabinus, and early Christian mosaics lie under the floor. Entry is free and services continue today.
