A 14th-century Moorish fortress built by Yusuf I of Granada on a 130-metre ridge to defend the Alcazaba below. The castle is renowned for the fierce three-month siege endured against Catholic monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella in 1487. Today visitors walk along its solid double ramparts and towers, taking in sweeping 360-degree panoramas over Málaga's harbour, the historic bullring of La Malagueta, and the Mediterranean Sea.
