The Thai royal family's winter residence on the slopes near Doi Suthep temple, built in 1961 of teak wood and rose-coloured brick. Highlights include the Suan Suwaree rose garden, a fern-filled valley beside a reservoir and pavilions in traditional Lanna style. The palace opens to the public when the family is not in residence, and a strict dress code applies: shoulders and knees covered, cover-ups available at the gate.
