A monumental 11th-century Romanesque basilica in Bari's historic centre, renowned as a major Christian pilgrimage sanctuary. It was founded in 1087 to enshrine the sacred relics of Saint Nicholas of Myra, brought here by Barese sailors. In the vaulted crypt supported by 26 marble columns lies the tomb of the Wonderworker, where both Catholic and Orthodox pilgrims from across the globe gather for prayer.
