Religious site4.7 · 40 1064.6 · 14 043≈ 40 minFree entry433 m from the center

The finest and purest embodiment of 14th-century Catalan Gothic architecture, built in Barcelona's Born district by the neighborhood's sailors, merchants, and dockworkers (bastaixos), who hauled heavy stones on their backs from Montjuïc. The interior impresses with austere grace: slender octagonal columns spaced 13 metres apart create an exceptionally luminous nave with peerless natural acoustics.

Highlights

  • Purest surviving monument of 14th-century Catalan Gothic style
  • Church built by port dockworkers (bastaixos) carrying stones
  • Luminous wide nave with octagonal pillars and superb acoustics
