The Asian Civilisations Museum on Empress Place by the river, housed in a colonial building of 19th-century trading offices. The collection spans the whole continent: Chinese porcelain, Islamic art, Buddhist sculpture from South and Southeast Asia. Its gem is the cargo of a 9th-century Tang shipwreck raised off Belitung island, thousands of bowls across twelve centuries. Entry is paid for foreign visitors and free for Singapore citizens.
