A massive rectangular fortress with four corner towers dominating Bratislava from an 85-metre rocky hill over the Danube. Once a royal residence of Hungarian monarchs where the coronation regalia were guarded, it burned in 1811 and was rebuilt in the 20th century. Today it houses the Slovak National Museum and a reconstructed baroque garden, offering views over the river and nearby Austria.
