Designed by Ivan Antić and Ivanka Raspopović and opened in 1965, the building is a landmark of Yugoslav modernism composed of six interconnected crystal-like polyhedrons. The museum houses over 8,000 works of 20th and 21st-century art, with glass galleries framing spectacular views of the Belgrade Fortress.
