A crowning masterpiece of high baroque architecture on Vienna's Karlsplatz, commissioned in 1716 by Emperor Charles VI following the city's deliverance from the plague. Designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, it merges an ancient Roman temple portico, two spiraling triumphal columns, and an immense turquoise dome. A panoramic elevator inside transports visitors up close to Johann Michael Rottmayr's vibrant ceiling frescoes.

Highlights

  • Twin triumphal columns carved with continuous spiral reliefs
  • Panoramic lift carrying visitors close to Rottmayr's dome frescoes
  • Evening Vivaldi Four Seasons concerts in an acoustic marvel
