One of Europe's largest fully preserved medieval fortresses, crowning the Festungsberg hill above Salzburg since 1077. Never conquered by enemy forces, the citadel was expanded around 1500 into an imposing prince-archiepiscopal residence. Highlights include the Gothic Prince's Chambers with the ornate Golden Hall, the Marionette Museum, and 360-degree rampart panoramas over the Alps and the Baroque city. Reached via funicular.
