Porto's cathedral is a 12th-century Romanesque basilica built like a fortress on a bluff above the river; King João I married Philippa of Lancaster here in 1387. Inside are a Gothic cloister lined with 16th–18th century azulejo tiles, a treasury with a silver altarpiece, and terraces with views over the old town. The nave is free for worshippers; a ticket covers the cloister, museum and tower.
