The first grand garden-tomb of the Mughal Empire, built between 1565 and 1572 for Emperor Humayun under the patronage of his widow, Empress Bega Begum. Designed by Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, the monument blends Persian elegance with Indian craftsmanship: red sandstone clad with white marble set amid symmetrical charbagh gardens. The tomb's monumental double dome directly inspired the creation of the Taj Mahal.
