The oldest heritage district in Dubai, dating back to the 1890s along the shores of Dubai Creek, historically known as Al Bastakiya. The maze of winding sandy alleyways is lined with traditional coral-stone and gypsum merchants' houses crowned by wind towers (barjeel) that once cooled the interiors. Today, these restored courtyard mansions house bohemian art galleries, the aromatic Coffee Museum, boutique teahouses, and craft studios.

Highlights

  • Traditional coral-stone architecture with historic barjeel wind towers
  • Atmospheric labyrinth of car-free shaded pedestrian alleyways
  • Specialist Coffee Museum and boutique contemporary art galleries
  • Steps from Dubai Creek and traditional wooden abra boat crossings
