Arch of Constantine

Sight4.7 · 7 4034.4 · 1 771≈ 22 minFree entry1.6 km from the center

Rome's largest surviving triumphal arch, erected in 315 to celebrate Constantine's victory over Maxentius. It stands between the Colosseum and the Palatine: three archways, 21 metres tall and reliefs recycled from monuments of Trajan, Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius — effectively a museum of Roman sculpture in the open air. Viewing is free and the arch sits right by the Colosseum exit; it is best seen early in the morning before the crowds arrive.
