St Martin's Cathedral is Bratislava's main Gothic building, constructed from the 13th century. For almost three hundred years, from 1563 to 1830, it was the coronation church of the Kingdom of Hungary: eleven monarchs and eight royal consorts, including Maria Theresa, were crowned here. A gilded crown on the 85-meter spire recalls those ceremonies. Inside survive stained glass, altar sculpture by Georg Raphael Donner and a crypt with tombstones.
