A café-palace inside the New York Palace on the Pest side of Budapest, opened in 1894 and long a headquarters of literary bohemia, where the Nyugat writers gathered. The interior is Italian-inspired opulence with gilding, marble, frescoes and chandeliers, which earned it a reputation as 'the most beautiful café in the world'. Today it belongs to a luxury hotel: live music, a long queue and the need to book ahead.
