A pinnacle of High Renaissance architecture, Villa Farnesina was commissioned in Trastevere around 1506 by the wealthy Sienese banker Agostino Chigi and designed by Baldassarre Peruzzi. The suburban villa is celebrated worldwide for its fresco cycles by Raphael, including the vaulted Loggia of Cupid and Psyche and the Triumph of Galatea, alongside Peruzzi's illusionistic Trompe-l'œil frescoes in the Hall of Perspectives.
