A memorial to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan — first president of the UAE and founder of the state — opened in 2018 on the Corniche waterfront. Its centrepiece, 'The Constellation', builds the sheikh's portrait out of over a thousand luminous elements strung on cables; it only resolves fully from certain viewpoints. Come after sunset, when the portrait lights up over the evening Gulf.
