Republic Square is the central civic square of Yerevan, masterfully designed by urban architect Alexander Tamanian in 1924. Built from distinctive local pink and yellow volcanic tuff, the imposing neoclassical buildings feature intricate stone carvings inspired by ancient Armenian architecture. The square is framed by the Government House, the National Gallery, and illuminated singing fountains that host musical shows nightly.
