The head temple of the Tenryu branch of Rinzai Zen Buddhism in scenic Arashiyama, founded in 1339 by shogun Ashikaga Takauji. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the complex is renowned for its 14th-century Sogenchi Garden designed by Muso Soseki, where a serene pond seamlessly borrows the forested Arashiyama mountains as scenery. Inside the Hatto hall, visitors can admire the captivating Cloud Dragon painting on the ceiling.
