A round Gothic fortress of 1498 raised by King John I Albert after Tatar raids. With three rings of walls and seven turrets, it ranks among Europe's largest and best-preserved barbicans, once guarding the entrance to the city from the Floriańska side. Today it is visited together with a stretch of the medieval city walls on a single Museum of Krakow ticket; it opens seasonally, roughly April to October.
