Jingshan Park

Park4.6 · 1 3504.5 · 2 989≈ 45 minEntry: ~2 CNY

The park just north of the Forbidden City, its artificial hill heaped up from the earth dug out for the palace moats. The five-tiered Wanchun Pavilion at the summit offers Beijing's classic panorama: the entire imperial complex unfolding along the north–south axis. Here in 1644 the last Ming emperor, Chongzhen, hanged himself by a locust tree as rebels stormed the city. Entry costs pocket change; the view is priceless.

Highlights

  • The classic view over the Forbidden City
  • Wanchun Pavilion atop the 45-metre hill
  • Sunset over Beijing's central axis
  • Right by the palace's north gate
