Paris's most dramatic landscaped park, created by engineer Jean-Charles Alphand under Napoleon III atop former gypsum quarries for the 1867 Universal Exposition. Its romantic scenery features a central artificial lake dominated by a 50-metre rocky island crowned with the Roman-style Temple de la Sibylle. Visitors cross to the cliff via a 63-metre suspension bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel, while a 30-metre waterfall cascades inside a grotto.
