Barcelona's Gothic cathedral, raised between the 13th and 15th centuries in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, honours the city's co-patron Saint Eulalia. In the palm-shaded cloister, thirteen white geese swim in a pond, symbolising the years of the young martyr's life and her thirteen torments. A lift carries visitors up to the roof for sweeping old-town views, while the crypt beneath the high altar holds her alabaster tomb.
