This elegant Ionic temple stands on a steep bastion at the southwest corner of the Athenian Acropolis, beside the Propylaea. Built around 420 BC by architect Callicrates, it was dedicated to Athena as goddess of victory. Made of Pentelic marble, its compact amphiprostyle design offers harmonious proportions and views over the Saronic Gulf.
