The Old Fortress of Corfu (Palaio Frourio) is an imposing 16th-century Venetian citadel built atop a rugged rocky promontory east of Corfu Old Town. Separated from the mainland by the seawater moat Contrafossa, the fortress withstood numerous Ottoman sieges. Visitors can explore ancient ramparts, British military barracks, the unique neoclassical Church of Saint George, and a hilltop lighthouse offering 360-degree views of the Ionian Sea.
